Right from the beginning, a desire to lead and face challenges has always been forefront in everything he’s done. From school prefect to 24 years – and counting – in the NZ Army to his role today at the helm of Advisory.Works, Kendall has defined his career through leading people and organisations to – as they say at Advisory.Works – get stuff done.
While he’s had plenty of academic and theoretical experience through qualifications attained at the University of Canterbury, Stanford University School of Business and Cornell University, his leadership style and confidence is rooted in his years of military service & business experience. This includes operational service overseas.
While Kendall still serves in the NZ Army Reserves as a Lieutenant Colonel, since 2004 his day-to-day working life has taken him down a different professional leadership path. In his role as CEO of the David Reid Homes Canterbury, he and his team won accolade after accolade. The Global Financial Crisis in 2009 created an incredibly difficult challenge for his Company.
It was during this recession that he experienced the potential downside of leadership – the isolation that a leadership role can create. In this way, the GFC orchestrated what was to come next. Kendall had a fresh drive to reach out to other people in those top-tier leadership positions through high performance coaching, creating the opportunity for CEOs and directors to connect and talk through their challenges with others who have an intuitive understanding of that experience. He is a professional leader in every sense of the word.
Kendall’s relationship with Advisory.Works – then The RESULTS Group –began on the other side of the desk, as a client and he was then asked to become a consultant. He has been creating his own journey within the company ever since, taking on the CEO role for 5 years (2012-2017) and becoming a part owner. He has established the Executive Leadership Programme, which enables the company to make a real difference to business leaders with his leadership knowledge and expertise. Beyond his time in the office, he also continues to create professional leadership learning opportunities through university lecturing, business speaking engagements, and governance roles. He consults and coaches many top performing Companies and CEO’s in New Zealand, Australia and the USA.
